Romeo and Juliet: Premonitions

A premonition that I had was at Fort Flagler this past summer. I went and stay there for two nights, and the first night, I had a dream that I accidently ran off a cliff and broke my leg. I just disregarded it becuase it was a dream and I didn't think that it would be be real at all. But then, the next night at flashlight tag in the bunkers, I was lying down in the grass and popped up quickly to start running and I heard a loup "pop!" I later found out that I had broken my hip.

Im not really sure if there is anything that I could have done to prevent the breaking of my hip. It was pitch black out, and the grass was wet, it was an accident waiting to happen. But I just disregarded it becuase I was having fun. I never would have thought slipping on wet grass would break my hip. In the future, I'll listen to my gut instincts more before doing things im not all that sure about.

Shakespeare Stories

A movie that revolves around one of the Shakespeare play plots is Wedding Crashers. In Wedding Crashers, Owen Wilson, and Vince Vaughn crash weddings to try and find girls. But after crashing one, Owen finds out that the girl he had met is ingaged. He falls in love with her and she falls in love with him but her fiance is a huge jerk and beats up Owen. This is a perfect a perfect example of a love triangle.
This movie is closly related to Shakespear's play, A Midsummer Night's Dream. In both stories, there is a girls father who wants them to marry a rich man but the girl likes another man who is not rich but a gentleman. I don't think that the movie producers followed the story line too well from a Midsummer Night's Dream but only used the love triangle idea. I think all in all, Shakespeare has a huge infulence on modern media. Almost all modern movies have these plots or something very similar.

Anticipating Shakespeare

I was able to understand a bit of the dialoge through out Midsummer Night's Dream but most of it was pretty hard. The language did get slightly easier as the movie went on but it was diffucult for me to understand what the characters were talking about and how one word had multiple meanings. I think that the plot in the movie was good, it wasn't really complicated but it had enough going on so it didnt get boring. My perception on Shakespeare is that his play writes are really well thought of and the characters explain themselves so it seems like you know a lot about them in not much time.
I don't know much about Romeo and Juliet but I've heard many good things about it. I think I will probably like it but it might get a little irritating listening to everyone in class reading out a part becuase it won't flow as well becuase of the old-time language. I might enjoy the next two months of class as much as you, but I can get really frusturated when I don't know whats going on in the book and I can see that happening very easily with the difference in language. Im going to try to enjoy it to the fullest I can, and I guess we'll see what happends.
